Simply Yoga...Feb 05, 2006
By Kay F Gibbs is exactly what it says it is. I actually purchased this set from a local bookstore. I started practicing Hatha Yoga in 1986 from a paper back I purchased, when I was trying to stop smoking and get fit. Thank God for DVDs. It was difficult holding the book open or getting it perched somewhere where you could see it and follow the instructions. I nearly pulled my hair out, yet I persisted. I found the candle light practice very helpful in giving up smoking. I was able to set my last pack of cigerettes down with ease. I stopped practicing for 15 years. I have found myself getting stiff and inflexible so I decided to get back into it and I picked this up. I found this DVD to be simple, straightforward and certainly easy to follow, if you watch the instructor. Yolanda has a very relaxing voice and you do not feel rushed when you are following her instruction. As I watched it for the first time I almost fell asleep. As a returning practioner I found it to be exactly what I needed although I was a bit bothered by the lack of specifics while directing some of the movements, which could be a good thing but in this case you would not learn to practice the movements on your own, without the DVD. On the other hand you wouldn't find yourself in the middle of a lecture suddenly wanting to raise your left arm over your chest while raising your right leg, if you get my drift. The entire DVD is filmed in what appears to be a small studio with no other distractions. The 65 page booklet offers additional poses with more detailed instruction and all of the various poses which I found helpful.
I decided it would be a great introduction to yoga and stretching for my 12 year old niece who likes sports and will be playing soccer and softball this summer, so I decided to give it to her to get her started. For what it says it is I gave it 4 stars.

Best YogaJul 11, 2007
By Dorothy B. Storm I want to encourage anyone that wants to incorporate Yoga into their healthy lifestyle to consider purchasing this book and DVD. In the book the author describes the details of each posture and also the importance of the various aspects of yoga, such as breathing and nutrition. In the DVD she calmly instructs the viewer in each pose of the sequence. During this she continues to remind the viewer how to breathe during each posture. I had originally borrowed this book/DVD from my local library and then pursued purchasing it because I had purchased several others by different authors and was disappointed. If anyone knows of other Yoga DVD's by Yolanda Pettinato I would appreciate the information, and how to purchase. Thank-you

Simple and RelaxingAug 30, 2006
By Jocelyn M. Phillips I bought this at a local bookstore, from the clearance bin, yesterday. I followed along with the DVD shortly before going to bed and I slept better last night than I have in the past two weeks.
If you are looking for a simple, inexpensive, relaxing yoga DVD, I recommend this one. The poses should not be difficult for people who are in decent shape. Because it is not very intense, this video isn't going to get you into great shape. However, if you need help relaxing your body and ultimately your mind, it will help with that.

inspiring, gentle and deepAug 03, 2008
By Tobey Crockett I also found this at a bargain bin at a big bookstore and got it because it said it was simple, appropriate to beginners and exactly 30 minutes long, which is the minimum amount of time I am trying to exercise daily. I am very exercise adverse but Yolanda's quiet encouragement and stress free pacing has become really addictive to me and since actually getting me to exercise is my number one obstacle, I consider this a major plus. Encouraged by this to try other DVD's, so far I have found them jarring and intense, with insufficient warm up and little to no spiritual quality at all. I have always been turned off by "yoga martinets" who seem only interested in the disciplining the body like a wayward child. This is not what yoga is about IMHO. No slouch herself, Yolanda warms you up and down and has a heartfelt but low key quality I love. I feel excellent afterwards!
I researched Yolanda a tiny bit and gather that she has had a major transformation in her own life; yoga has apparently been a big part of creating that new life for her. She offers fairly traditional poses but apparently not just the easiest versions ever, as far as I can gather from my reading of Yoga Journal online. Yoga Journal - as well as Yolanda's own book - offer tips for improving postures and getting the most out of it. (Of course actual teachers are good too! LOL) Based on my considerable experience with tai chi, I would say that Simply Yoga DVD is "deceptively simple" and that one should not be too quick to underestimate what you can get from it. Like anything, the more effort you put in, the better the results will be.
For those starting at zero, in not the greatest shape but looking for rapid but gentle improvement, I think this is a real winner. I may advance to other DVDs and live teachers but I think this is a real keeper. Her understated spiritual qualities far exceed any other DVD presentation I have seen so far. I hope she makes a meditation CD! I've done a lot of visualization but I can see that she is an excellent teacher and would be a good guide into deeper meditations.

Excellent Beginners WorkoutSep 17, 2007
By B. Fischer I would wholeheartedly recommend this video/dvd for beginner yoga...Yolanda has a very relaxing voice - it's a doable exercise and doesn't have you in all the twists and bends and harder poses that come in a more advanced yoga class. I've been using this for about 3 months now 3 times a week and find that it is really working my muscles and toning me up. I'm in my mid 50's and just love it!!! AND it's only 30 minutes long so it doesn't take up so much of your day! If you are thinking about yoga and looking at getting into it, then i urge you to think about this one - you will feel energized and relaxed at the same time!
