5Superb versions of the violin concerti!Mar 13, 2005
By cappakis
I was familiar with both Violin Concerti before my purchase, but since I am just starting to work on my own collection, did not own any version of either of them. I chose this CD at the store because of the relatively prestigious reputations of all performers and conductors, even though there were cheaper options. I have not been dissapointed! These versions of the Violin Concerti are without a doubt my favorite to date and this has become one of my most played CDs. I would highly reccommend this CD.

5Best version of Tchaikovsky's yetNov 11, 2008
By Batcaveakron "Mike"
Tchaikovsky's Violin concerto is one of the most difficult pieces ever written for the violin. This version is the best preformance I have heard to date. All the passages are played crisply with confidence and bravado. There is no skimping of notes and slurring of riffs. This is the way Tchaikovsky would have wanted it played. This is a must for fans of this piece.

5Perlman is at his best in the Tchaikovsky and Menelssohn Violin ConcertosDec 19, 2010
By Broomaker
Artistically and technically this CD is above reproach. As is his style, Perlman's annunciation is clear as a bell for both the Tchaikovsky and the Mendelssohn. The Tchaikovsky continues to be #1 or #2 in concert popularity with the Beethoven concerto and everyone should own both. If you're lucky and own the now ancient Heifetz rendition with Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Philharmonic, compare Perlman's performance which is surely a better recording, but the 2003 Perlman recording with the Philadelphia Orchestra has phrasing and tonality absent from the Heifetz. If you want to be fussy, compare this recording to two others which also include the Mendelssohn concerto; Kyung Wha Chung's recording with The Montreal Symphony and Charles Dutoit or, if you can find it, an older rendition by Nathan Milstein with the Vienna Philharmonic with Fritz Reiner at the stick. I pick the Perlman for his crisp playing and enormous emotion.Tchaikovsky & Mendelssohn Violin Concertos

5Ah, there is nothing like good musicNov 14, 2009
By Beverly Rosoff
Well you can keep your rap, hip hop and other "music". This is glorious. Perlman has never been in better form and the orchestra is magnificant.
This is a prize in my collection.

5Must Have CDFeb 15, 2005
By Pierre M. Weydert "classical music fan"
This is the one CD that every lover of classical music must have. No greater performance in the genre of violin concertos has ever been recorded. Perlman is at the height of his craft.
Absolutely fabulous!!!
