5A Baby FaveNov 21, 2002
By Angie "nycpickymom"
I'm not an expert on classical music, but I do know my 1 month old daughter absolutely loves this CD. It instantly soothes her and captures her attention like no other musical melodies we play for her. The first CD I tried with her was the one that comes in the free diaper bag of goodies from the hospital and that one did absolutely nothing for her. It made me doubt the whole classical craze. Then my hubby brought this one home. After a week of sitting unopened I popped it in and it worked like magic. The first track captivated her and when it gets to the part that sounds like birds chirping she grins from ear to ear. This CD keeps her interested until she drifts off to sleep. This has been a lifesaver for me since my daughter is one who hates to be put down. This has helped my arms and my cooking quite a bit :-). Anything that keeps her attention and allows me time to do a few things is a must have.

5Not just for babiesDec 19, 1999
By G. Lee
This CD contains lightly arranged pieces which suit children very well. I am a 19 year old college student, and I use it personally for study music-it is really good background music without any of the distractions that usually arise from trying to listen to music and do homework at the same time. Highly recommended for children as well as adults.

2Do not buy this album!Nov 09, 2002

For REAL Mozart, do not buy this CD. It is sub-par to music standards.

If you're a musician yourself, you will be greatly disappointed by this album. If you are not, and you wish to buy this to help your child, you would have better luck with something else.

You may have heard about 'the Mozart effect,' that widely disputed theory thatlistening to classical music at an early age helps childrens' brains develop better and helps them to grasp complex ideas with a greater ease. Whether or not this theory actually works is not the point, the point is that the quality of the performance and the recording is not very good. You might wonder why this matters if you are only buying it to help your baby get smarter... the answer is simple: if you want your baby to listen to Mozart, why not have him/her listen to a better quality Mozart?

Notice that the works in this album don't have a conducter or performer next to them.

If what you're going for is short melodic excerpts that are easy to listen to for your baby, look up '25 Mozart Favorites.' It has many of the same pieces, but played by actual performing groups with real conducters. Better yet, it's much cheaper! And please, don't stop there - if you discover that you or your child actually like classical music, there is a whole series of 25 pieces on cds with different composers or periods of music. Did you know that the 'Mozart effect' doesn't just apply to Mozart, but most classical composers? It's true!

So, to make your baby smart, you have to think smart yourself first of all.

5My baby loves it!Nov 28, 2000
By Martha Jane Jenkins
I bought this CD after hearing about the Mozart Effect from a friend. I play it in the car for my baby, now 22 months and she asks for it before I even start up the car. I love it too, which is good because I listen to it alot. Her favorite song is the Mozart version of Twinkle, Twinkle. It's interesting to note that Mozart's father, Leopold, was an accomplished musician and is featured in this CD.

5A wonderful CDJun 01, 2003
By J. Villani
I received several classical music CD's as gifts before my daughter was born, and out of all of them (also including classical CD's I had already owned) this is definitely my favorite. It stands out because it is not full of simply "traditional" arrangements but rather is very light and playful - there are all sorts of cute little chirping and whirring noises that add to it as well. It is just a lot of fun, and provides the perfect background for cuddling with your new little one.

There is one comment below from someone who thought the music was too simple and was of poor quality. I would agree that the music is very simple (not a bad thing), but disagree with the notion that it is poor quality. Anyway, this should be just one CD in a library of different types of music, classical and other, to help your child's music appreciation develop. If it happens to expand other developmental skills as well, even better!
